Bond Street Books to Publish Jonathan Franzen’s New Novel in Canada in Fall 2015

(Toronto) Bond Street Books, an imprint of Doubleday Canada, will publish Jonathan Franzen’s new novel in the fall of 2015. PURITY will hit book stores in September. Devon Mazzone,  Subsidiary Rights Director at Farrar, Strauss & Giroux, completed the deal.

“We are very proud to be the new publishing home for Jonathan Franzen here in Canada,” says Kristin Cochrane, President and Publisher of Random House of Canada. “He is, without a doubt, one of the most important writers working today. As a huge fan of his fiction and his essays, I leapt at the opportunity to acquire this new novel two years ago and could hardly believe my luck. It thrills me to finally announce that we will be bringing this eagerly-awaited book to Canadian readers next fall.”

Mr. Franzen’s long-time editor, Jonathan Galassi of Farrar, Straus & Giroux, describes PURITY as a multigenerational American epic that spans decades and continents. The story centers on a young woman named Purity Tyler, or Pip, who doesn’t know who her father is and sets out to uncover his identity. The narrative stretches from contemporary America to South America to East Germany before the collapse of the Berlin Wall, and hinges on the mystery of Pip’s family history and her relationship with a charismatic hacker and whistleblower.

Bond Street Books is an imprint of Doubleday Canada and is dedicated to bringing the best international writing to Canadian readers. The imprint’s roster of writers includes Haruki Murakami, Lorrie Moore, Kate Atkinson, Dinaw Mengestu, Rachel Joyce and Diane Setterfield, to name but a few.
