November 1, 2016Professor PETER B. WAITE was born in Toronto in 1922 and grew up in Belleville, Ontario, and Saint John, New Brunswick. After four years in the Canadian Navy, he went to the University of British Columbia where he took his B.A. (Hons) and M.A. degrees. He received his PH.D. at the University of Toronto, and taught at Dalhousie University, Halifax, where he was head of the department of history from 1960 to 1968. He is the author of many articles and several books, among them The Life and Times of Confederation 1864-1867 and The Confederation Debates in the Province of Canada, 1865.
