He is also a Special Advisor to the Secretary General of the UN and Chairman of The Earth Council. He has been the UN's Secretary of the Environment, and was Secretary General and Chairman of the UN Rio Summit on the Future of the Planet in 1991. He also heads his own environmental business interests. He lives in Ontario and commutes to Washington.
