At nineteen, Innis Corbett is transplanted from his home near Boston and suddenly finds himself back in the remote Cape Breton community where he was born, the reluctant and unwelcome guest of his uncle Starr. Innis had developed an addiction for stealing expensive cars (not for money but for pleasure) and for the marijuana he helps his best friend to sell. December 4, 2001D. R. MacDonald was born on Cape Breton Island. In 1969 he received a Stegner Fellowship in Fiction at Stanford University, where he now teaches. In 1983 he was awarded a NEA Grant in Literature. MacDonald has won two Pushcart prizes, an Ingram Merrill Award, and an O. Henry Award. He lives in California.
