Carol Janeway

Carol Janeway (1944–2015) was an editor and award-winning literary translator best known for her translation of Bernhard Schlink’s international bestseller The Reader. After graduating from Cambridge with a degree in modern and medieval languages, she went on to translate a number of renowned books, mainly from German to English. Janeway also worked as a senior editor at Alfred A. Knopf, publishing works by Thomas Mann and George MacDonald Fraser.
