THE GIRL RETURNS: STIEG LARSSON’S MILLENNIUM SERIES CONTINUES WITH BOOK FIVE BY DAVID LAGERCRANTZ TO BE PUBLISHED BY VIKING CANADA IN SEPTEMBER
TORONTO, November 18, 2016 – The worldwide #1 bestselling Millennium series of novels will continue in September with the publication of book five in the series, written by David Lagercrantz and featuring the return of its two iconic protagonists, Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist. The announcement was made today by Nicole Winstanley, Publisher of Penguin Canada, in concert with Millennium publishers around the world. The title of the fifth book in the series will be announced at a later date.
The publication of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in 2008 triggered a fascination with Scandinavian writers and their dark fiction—fueled no doubt, by the untimely death of its author, Stieg Larsson, just prior to publication. Larsson’s next two books in his series were published posthumously, The Girl Who Played with Fire in 2009 and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest in 2010. The series continued in 2015 with the publication of The Girl in the Spider’s Web, now written by the acclaimed writer David Lagercrantz.
“Stieg Larsson’s masterful novels thrilled millions of Canadian readers,” said Winstanley. “David’s electrifying continuation of the series left us spellbound. As both a publisher and a fan, I’m delighted The Girl will return in a new book by one of Europe’s most acclaimed authors.”
The Girl in the Spider’s Web has sold 6 million copies to date, and The Millennium Series of novels together have sold 85 million copies in 50 territories around the world. They have all been #1 bestsellers around the world, including in Canada.
Lagercrantz admits to being “amazed by the response” readers had to The Girl in Spider’s Web, and has said that Larsson’s universe continues to inspire him. About the fifth book in the series, Lagercrantz said only this, “During a holiday trip with my family an idea struck me. It arose the same fever that I lived with when I wrote The Girl in the Spider’s Web. It is not so good for my sleep and my neurosis, but it is definitively good for my writing.”
An acclaimed author and journalist, David Lagercrantz lives in Stockholm, Sweden.
