About Us: 

Penguin Random House Canada is looking for a Learning and Development Manager who will professionally lead the delivery of the L&D program. The ideal candidate will understand the functional and business realities of a creative environment, and provide insight and delivery of flexible, creative and pragmatic solutions in a timely and effective way to add value to the business. A key priority for this position is to ensure that all of our staff have a satisfactory understanding of all of our commonly used systems.

About the Role: 

Important areas of responsibility include:

Skills Development

  • Assess the L&D needs of PRHC including the use of system tools (SAP, Business Objects, Excel etc.), and filling knowledge gaps (business terms, departmental processes, etc.)
  • Create a comprehensive curriculum to address these needs across a variety of roles and functions for employees from entry level to experienced senior managers, and those both new to the company and longer-term
  • Determine appropriate delivery methods for curriculum including coaching, classroom instruction and online learning (LMS and online learning library, Lynda.com) as well as use of SMEs and leveraging US training program
  • Develop & maintain a robust onboarding programme for new employees which includes training with all relevant systems
  • Create programmes to ensure that employees remain current in systems training

Career/Talent Development

  • Design, develop and lead the implementation of the career development strategy
  • Regularly assess the results of development programs
  • Leads the design of different assessment tools
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning in which formal and informal peer-to-peer mentorship is encouraged
  • Develop, in conjunction with the HR team and managers, career planning and mapping tools for staff
  • Liaise with HR Director and PRH Worldwide L&D team regarding global talent management and related initiatives including Bertelsmann University nominations, global talent pool, succession planning

Your Experience: 
  • Training and Development accreditation (CTP, CTDP or equivalent)
  • 5 years of experience in learning & development with responsibility for creation and implementation of internal employee training programs (including assessments, solution design, program effectiveness metrics)
  • Ability to report on, analyze and assess the effectiveness of learning programs through key success metrics and make recommendations to evolve existing programs and/or develop new ones
  • Familiarity with traditional and modern training methods (mentoring, coaching, on-the-job or in classroom training, e-learning, workshops, simulations, etc.)
  • Knowledge of adult learning, employee development, evaluation & consultation skills and training techniques
  • Excellent presentation, facilitation, consulting & relationship building skills
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with key stakeholders at various levels across the company
  • Ability to create a learning climate in which participants are engaged and eager to contribute
  • Ability to manage L&D operational budget
  • Confident, positive, friendly and professional manner
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel
